The devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey is hitting close to home for many of our industry friends in Texas, particularly in and around Houston. Unfortunately the flooding is expected to continue through this week. Here are a few ways to get involved and help victims through financial contributions or donating your time.
Donate any amount of money to help with the Texas Gulf Coast disaster response through the Red Cross website. You can also donate through text message: Send the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Donating blood is another way to assist through Red Cross.
Global Giving Foundation
Give money to relief and recovery in Texas and along the Gulf Coast through the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund project. To date, the crowdfunding project has raised about $206,000 toward its $2 million goal and will provide help in the form of supplying food, water and medicine to residents.
The Salvation Army
Relief efforts by The Salvation Army include sending volunteers to the front lines. Donate any amount online, either a one-time gift or a monthly contribution through its website, or sign up to help in person.
Local food banks in Houston, Galveston, Corpus Christi, Beaumont and more communities are in great need of monetary and food donations. You can donate funds online, or if you’re located near a food bank and have the ability, you can bring staples such as cereal, canned fruit and peanut butter directly to the facilities.
Convoy of Hope
If you live within two hours of the affected area, are in good physical health and can pay for your own transportation and lodging, you can volunteer on the front lines through the Convoy of Hope organization. Children older than 13 are allowed to help.
