2018 Game Changers: Dave Lucey, Destination Irvine

By Connect Sports Staff, August 13, 2018

Dave Lucey is sales manager at Destination Irvine. As a 2018 Connect Sports Game Changer, he discusses his passion for sports tourism.

How I Got Here: I landed this position because of my experience with hotel sports sales for more than 15 years at IHG, Hilton and Wyndham, and my experience building relationships with tournament directors. I have a passion for sports, and it drives me to book more events here in Irvine.

Why I Am a Game Changer: I have knowledge on the hotel side and the tournament side. This combination helps me know what events would best fit our city and what would work for our hotels.

Greatest Career Accomplishment: Since joining Destination Irvine over a year ago, I am proud of booking the NAIA for 2018 and 2019 and helping secure the LA Galaxy Cup youth soccer tournament in Irvine.

Impressive Stats: I have increased Destination Irvine Sports sales by more than 30 percent since joining last April.

What I Am Working on Now: I am working on a few youth baseball and softball tournaments for Orange County Great Park. It is always exciting to bring something new that has never been here and see our hotels happy from the increased business.

What I Do Outside of Work: I enjoy playing golf on the weekends, and fishing and watching sports.
