Favorite Venues: World-Class BMX Tracks

By Emily Freehling, June 30, 2017

Two of the finest BMX tracks to be completed in the U.S. in recent years are tracks in Oldsmar, Fla., and Rock Hill, S.C., according to USA BMX Chief Communications Officer Craig Barrette. “These are amazing venues hosting some major events in 2017,” says Barrette.

The Novant Health BMX facility in Rock Hill will host the UCI BMX World Championships in 2017—the first time the world championships have been held in the U.S. since 2001. In addition to these new tracks, plenty of recent renovations are worth noting, Barrette says.

Derby City BMX in Louisville, Ky., and Sarasota BMX in Florida both recently added Olympic-caliber 8-meter pro starting hills. The renovation helped Sarasota BMX land the 2016 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Finals, which were run in October.

With these projects, along with the North Houston Bike Park in the works in Texas, the United States will have eight BMX tracks that meet specifications to hold world-class events.

Oakland recently hosted the U.S. Rowing Master National Championships, a prestigious four-day event that attracted many of the country’s top rowers.

NAIA is now accepting bids to host its 2021 and 2022 Men’s & Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships. RFPs are due Dec. 1.
