Olympic Trials Are a Gold Rush for Destinations

Olympic trials can draw millions into city coffers, boost regional tourism and deepen overall sport culture. So what does it take to host successful trials? We looked at three U.S. cities that took on hosting duties in 2016. While there’s no one way to do it—these cities vary in geography, culture and infrastructure—we’ve found the winning formula to involve visionary organizers, heavy grassroots support and, above all, passion for the game.
