The Road to Rio

Pushing their bodies to the limit is only a minor challenge compared to what some Rio Olympic athletes must overcome to achieve their dream of winning gold. Deep personal issues, health struggles and financial difficulties can also play a major role. Here, we look at three athletes who learned getting to Rio was only half the journey—and who are coming out stronger on the flip side, with or without medals.
