2019 Game Changers: Megan Schmidt, Elite Tournaments

Megan Schmidt, Elite Tournaments

Megan Schmidt is vice president of event operations for Elite Tournaments in Baltimore, Maryland. As a 2019 Connect Sports Game Changer, she discusses her passion for sports tourism.

What I do: I coordinate and manage staff that oversee all aspects of tournament preparation including procurement of venue contracts, logistical event preparation, communication between venues and suppliers and execution/onsite management. How I got here: Prior to landing my position with Elite Tournaments my plan was to become a collegiate soccer coach. But after working an Elite Tournaments event in 2009 and meeting with the owners Mike and Mandy Libber, my plans quickly changed. Why I am Game Changer: In the last three years, we have saved one of our largest clients $48,000 on facility rental fees through our work with the local Economic Development Department by using creative advertising methods to promote their destination. What I am working on now: Our fantastic and strategic business development team, including Megan Ditchman and Elle Marks, have our staff excited about a partnership agreement with Adidas that will introduce the Creators Cup, an exclusive national event series designed for adidas club partners. What’s next? We are also excited about the expansion of the Southampton Cup. Currently this unique event takes place in Maryland, Florida, Texas and California. What I do outside of work: I am recently a new mom which has been fantastic and like my staff, I love to see him learn and grow as an individual! In my spare time, I love going to the gym to get my “oxygen” for the day! SportsPittsburgh
