The MLS All-Star game is going back to the Rocky Mountains, Commissioner Don Garber announced this week. The 2015 game will mark the second time Denver will host the event, the first being in 2007. “Colorado has become a destination for marquee soccer events, and we are thrilled to bring the AT&T All-Star Game to the region,” Garber said in a league statement. “Dick’s Sporting Goods Park is a tremendous stadium, and we know the enthusiastic support of Centennial 38 and other Rapids fans will provide a great home-field advantage for the MLS All-Stars.” Garber also cited the World Cup qualifier Dicks Sporting Goods Park hosted in 2013 in which the U.S. Men's National Team beat Costa Rica in a snow storm, calling it "perhaps one of the greatest games in U.S. Soccer history." Newly appointed Denver Sports Commission Executive Director Matthew Payne told Connect Sports landing this event helps reinforce Denver's status as a marquee sports town.

"We’re honored to be chosen by Commissioner Garber and the MLS for this prestigious game," Payne said. "Denver has a long history of staging high-profile events and we’re excited to work with the Rapids and Kroenke Sports to put on a great show for the fans and the teams involved."

The July 29th-game, which will pit MLS All-Stars against a yet-to-be-named professional club most likely from Europe, will be televised by FS1. MLS went to an "us-against-the-world" style for its All-Star game in 2005, bringing English club Fulham stateside. Other opponents have included English stalwarts Manchester United and Chelsea as well as German power Bayern Munich, among others. According to the Denver Post, "Visit Denver CEO Richard Scharf speculated the economic impact would be 'somewhere between $15 and $20 million.'" Dicks Sporting Goods Park, located in Commerce City, Colorado, will play host. This will mark the second consecutive year the facility has hosted a marquee international event. It also hosted the 2014 World Lacrosse Championships last summer.
