What’s New

Beginning in spring 2019, the 550,000-sq.-ft.Charlotte Convention Center will undergo a $115 million expansion that will be available for contracting in 2021.

This year, Uptown will welcome a Home2 Suites by Hilton and an EVEN Hotel. Slated for 2020 and 2021, visitors can expect to stay at the Grand Bohemian (254 rooms), the MOXY Charlotte Downtown (200 rooms), the InterContinental Hotel at Carolina Theatre (274 rooms) and the JW Marriott (381 rooms).

Optimist Hall, a 146,000-sq.-ft. redevelopment of a former mill, will be transformed into a food hall.

Pinhouse, a highly anticipated two-story, 6,036-sq.-ft. bowling alley, will offer activities for people of all ages including four duckpin bowling lanes, a putting green and 70 total taps.

Charlotte Convention Center

Conveniently located just 7 miles from the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Charlotte Convention Center is the city’s premier meeting and convention space. The 550,000-sq.-ft.facility (soon to be 600,000 square feet in 2021) has been bringing in more than half a million visitors each year for conventions, trade shows, banquets, conferences and athletic events.

Totaling 280,000 square feet of contiguous space, Charlotte Convention Center’s exhibit halls can accommodate 1,250 booths or can be divided into four halls. Setup is easy as the facility offers four freight elevators and 20 covered loading dock bays, with direct drive-in access. The 40,000-sq.-ft. Crown Ballroom can hold 2,400 to 4,200 people. And to really make guests feel at home, the facility offers full-service, in-house catering, a concierge service, a visitor information center, a gift shop and an in-house AV provider with professional technicians.

Mecklenburg County Sportsplex

Mecklenburg County Sportsplex in the Matthews suburb of Charlotte features five artificial turf multipurpose fields for sports like soccer, rugby, lacrosse, football, field hockey and more. The property also features a picnic shelter, bathrooms and a playground. Over the past year, four more artificial-turf fields have been added, along with two natural-grass fields, a grass championship field with 2,700 seats and a two-story field house.
