Jennifer Stoll, CSEE, is executive director of the Greater Grand Junction Sports Commission. As a 2018 Connect Sports Game Changer, she discusses her passion for sports tourism.Connect with Stoll on Instagram.
What I Do: I am responsible for development and oversight of the Greater Grand Junction Sports Commission. Our organization builds, recruits, and enhances sport and recreation events in western Colorado.
How I Got Here: My background is in professional golf through the PGA of America, where my first event was the 2008 Ryder Cup in Louisville, Kentucky. It was through that experience, followed by time at a nonprofit in Denver, that my interest in starting a sports commission in Grand Junction emerged. Flash-forward a few years, and the GGJSC has evolved from an idea to garnering community and industry respect—and we’re just getting started! Why I am a Game Changer: My background brings a unique blend of experiences from working in operations during my time in professional golf, to now being on the destination-side of the discussion. That professional experience, coupled with my academic resume (I’m currently finishing my doctorate in sport management) yield a unique perspective in the industry.
Greatest Career Accomplishment: First: Getting the sports commission off the ground in Grand Junction. To see something through from wild idea to fruition has been amazing. Second will be completing my Ph.D.!
What I Do Outside of Work: I am writing my dissertation during most of my free time. I sit on the board of the NASC, am a member of the North American Society for Sport Management and blog professionally. I enjoy time with my husband and two kids, and work on our small ranch and enjoy all the outdoor recreation opportunities Colorado has to offer.
