The World Corporate Games are headed to Houston in 2017, marking the first time the global sporting event will be held in the United States since 1990. The Corporate Games World Headquarters made the announcement this week, culminating Global Partnership Director Doug White’s two years’ effort to bring the games back to this country. As Connect Sports reported last year, Kurt Aichele, chief operating officer of the Colorado Springs-based FuseSport, landed the rights to put on the Corporate Games in this county. White said at the time that was the missing piece for the United States to put on the worldwide event, which will bring thousands of athletes to Houston Nov. 16-19, 2017. In August 2016, the U.S. Corporate Games will be held in Austin, Texas. More than 20 competitions, including soccer, dragon boat racing and kickball, will comprise the Houston games. Details are being ironed out to make George R. Brown Convention Center the event’s hub. In a statement, White says the 2017 event “promises to be one of the biggest World Corporate Games ever.” The inaugural World Corporate Games were held in San Francisco in 1988, followed by Concorde, California, and Hawaii in 1989 and 1990 respectively.
